#23 Is this really the end? Or just the beginning?

What a marathon. Lucky me to have the chance to broaden my horizon even though I found it an uphill battle as there was so much there & my computer tolerance is fairly low. It was pretty thrilling to own my very own blog as well as and getting to know a bit about previously alien things like RSS feeds, flickr and learning that Rollyo wasn't a peppermint lolly has been a very interesting and sometimes rewarding experience. I am quite excited about being able to curl up with a real book again...

#22 Audiobooks

How cool is this? As an audiobook addict making audiobooks available to Libraries via the net sounds a great idea : less cost, more choice, less damage to fragile media. This has to take off in the future with more titles including ones that are not in the public domain. I don't know if it is that I have nearly finished the course but I started to get quite excited when I got to the Librivox volunteer programme which invites people to record chapters of books which are in the public domain and then release the audio files back on the net. Wonder how I would go reading something like "Crime and punishment" aloud??

#21 Podcasts Smodcasts

Time, time, time. It's slipping away from me. Libraries and Podcasts? Coming to a PC near you. Had a listen to some of the podcasts on the directories & found it all a bit ho hum. Although using podcasts for training or providing information in a library setting sounds interesting. I think I am just about downloaded out but have managed to add the ABC latest podcast to my blogline account so another one bites the dust.

#20 YouTube your way & I'll go mine

You could spend a life time playing with this stuff, but I don't think I have that much time left. What fun and what odd things interest people. (Check out the Naruto Shippuuden videos) I took the easy way out but couldn't resist the Medieval Librarians & the Help desk. I have spent so much of this course describing myself as "puzzled" that it is nice to know that new technology has always been a challenge for some of us .

Getting the message across is the perennial test for Libraries & doing it with humour will always get my vote.

#19 Discovering Web tools

Of course the fave is Library Thing. Checked it out and there are some of my very old friends in random list #1. so here they are. It is fun to see what we are reading and have the chance to share good reads/bad reads... Libraries using tools like LT - a Pandora's Box but challenge is what it is all about.

#18 Zoho Ho Ho Ho It's December

Library Signs for the unwary

You were warned about saying something nice about the librarian's new dress, you were told not to interrupt a librarian's conversation. You not only ignored this, but you objected to meal and smoking breaks. We explained already why the Librarian was late to work. Your borrower card has now been torn up.

This is my little exercise with ZoHo.
Using precious online time which means money to most of us for everyday PC tasks seems a bit over the top to me but hey those techo businesses would not count the cost. Probably be cheaper than paying for multiple software licences.

#17 Learning 2.0 SandBox wiki

After reading some of my colleagues experiences I thought this was going to be really difficult but it worked by copy/paste the url into the MV list and there I was. Flushed with success I went on to add an entry to my Favorite movies. So there I am telling the world about Ladyhawke

#16 So what's in a wiki?

Wikis could be useful and fun for local or community use like the local fair, family celebration, bookclub. I thought it would all be so simple and that Libraries should embrace the whole idea boots and all after viewing the Commoncraft demo. Peter Blake brought me down to earth ; just because technology says we can - should we?. Anyone can do it - as long as correct syntax is used which sounds as if a reasonable degree of monitoring & quality control is required. But in Librarylanda good thing would be that input by clients could foster a greater understanding to staff of how clients go about getting the information they need. More participation - better understanding - more usage - loyalty.

#15 On Library 2.0 and * Web 2.0

Libraries at the cutting edge - sounds good to me : but please please don't let us forget that Libraries service people and the community in many different ways. Curling up with a laptop just does not have the same feel as settling in with a good book & a glass of red. I agree with Rick Anderson ("Away from the icebergs" : http://www.oclc.org/nextspace/002/2.htm) that seamless user friendly access for patrons of all degrees of cybersavvy are so important in providing such services as digital collections of journals, books, blogs, podcasts - and whatever the future brings. Libraries will never have enough funding for sufficient staff for intense individual assistance or training for those who are struggling up the internet mountain.
Communication gallops on in all life's aspects not just in libraries. (Just watch "Life on Mars" to see how much faster, easier and perhaps invasive communication has become) Last night in I overheard a conversation - a young couple explained to an older woman (younger than me which made me feel better) how easy it will be to record TV programs or watch simultaneous programs with HD TV. Just a click of the remote - won her (& me).

#14 Technorati

Technorati very smarty. Took the tour and think I might leave it at that for awhile. Results for searching blog posts with Learning 2.0 threw up 497 results with a video clip of Helen Bowers as well as a link to Stephens Lighthouse : Tag search came up with 623 and Directory search 773 Many of the blogs appear to be about elearning and knowledge management in general. Would I use it? probably not.

#13 Tagging Folksonomies, Del.icio.us

"Sorry wrong number". Where would we be without our helpful Library colleagues? Thanks for getting me on track with the posting. Fortunately it is easy to fix the numbers.
Well we did think this would be easy peasie, but true to form the jargon blows me away. Thank goodness fof our mate Lelefever and his YouTube tutorial & the Network badge link was helpful too. Am feeling full of confidence now so here we go to slay another dragon.
Perhaps the "Clouds" are lifting for I now know what a cyberspace Cloud is. Once again this would be good in a Library context for keeping up to date with certain subjects/areas of interest. As well as opening up a whole new world for my interest in finding out more about real people in historical fiction & my big faves film and theatre.
Perseverance pays off. It took 2 goes to load the icons & then was easy to bookmark a site. Phew!!

# 12 Rollyo

Can see lots of possibilities for Rollyo. So far easiest to use or dare one hope that that the veil is lifting?

#11 Library Thing

Now this was fun. Easy to use but of course forgot to tag. Never mind there are plenty of other books in the sea. Fortunately the library ( my Pandora's Box) provides enough books to keep me happy forever as having been a bit footloose in the past the books have fallen by the wayside or been left behind.

#10 Image generators

We're still finding this a tad time consuming to say the least. there is such a lot of fun stuff that it is very difficult to make decisions so we have settled on the simplest thing we could find. so here goes.

This is the link:

#8 RSS and Newsreader

My mates and I have discovered that this is a great way to spend hours sitting staring at a screen. Finding the right password is always a challenge and it pays not to PANIC. I think we have managed to scrape through and are looking forward to the next challenge. (Be positive ). We rewarded ourselves by reading "The prestige" by Christopher Priest. (The film was not as interesting as the book) All the shenanigans with magic and doubles and electricity ( I even looked up Nicola Tesla) had us quite spooked. The double and triple twists and turns of the plot mirrored us as we waded our way through cyberspace.
Took some time out to relax and practice some windsurfing techniques & a bit of a read (summer is acomin) when it got a bit much.
What do we like about RSS. It should be easy now we know how and will be good for work and at home go have recent info. available. Of course remembering to check always helps!

#6. There is a lot of stuff out there

After travelling cyberworld for what seems like a lifetime todayI needed something calm and beautiful to look at.

# 5 Too much

Why is this so easy for some? Wise ones say write it down. Perhaps I have circular brain as I go round and round & eventually (fingers crossed) figure out by default mostly where to go next. I know where I want to go but they say getting there is half the fun...I must be having fun fun fun. Anyway here goes I think I am just about ready to try flickr. What wonderful images there are out there. Do these people do anything else?

#2 Me and my mates

Here we are just sortingout the world. Some of the gang had a better offer today but the rest of us are enjoying a bit of air and checking out the local fauna. We are diverse group as friends are. I don't seem to cope too well without a book handy; and the little one is a bit flighty. We never know where to next but it is always great fun finding out what is over the fence. The musician can be a bit pompous but old friends can cope although is can get a bit hectic juggling all those instruments everywhere we go.
